History
Found it (lyrics only) on the Digitrad; http://www.mudcat.org/@displaysong.cfm?SongID=1736 (with discussions on the origins of the phrase 'with the Captain's daughter').
Found an abc file in Henrik Norbeck's Abc Tunes collection (http://www.norbeck.nu/abc/), called The Drunken Sailor Hornpipe, and if you listen very carefully, it does sound like the basis for the song.
Ah, finally found what I was looking for - origally from MusicaViva - although in Adorian instead of the Edorian that we normally use. I may have to transcribe it, but for now I have put it as-is into the var-Drunken Sailor.abc file.
From wikipedia;
The air was taken from a traditional Irish dance and march tune, "Oró Sé do Bheatha 'Bhaile"
